The Inherited Roots Project ("InRP") is founded by Malick Manga, son of Ebou Manga, who was the Hamilton College student from The Gambia that Roots author, Alex Haley met in 1967, and would help usher Haley on a journey leading not only to the book, but the 1977 historic-miniseries.  Malick established InRP in honor of his late father and "Uncle Alex" as an umbrella entity that enables him—from a tri-cultural perspective—to link Africans, African-Americans and the African Diaspora through initiatives that meet one of InRP's four key missions to: empower, elevate, engage and educate (click on missions for further information).  Malick is also honored that for some of InRP's initiatives he's teamed up with his friend  and grandson of Alex Haley, Bill Haley, Jr.—just as his father and Uncle Alex did over five deades ago...
