On September 8, 2026 HBCU University of Maryland, Eastern Shore (UMES) renamed their School of Agricultural & Natural Science (SANS) after Simon A. Haley—Alex Haley's father and Bill Haley's great-grandfather, due to his renowned academic/agricultural career.
