While this year heralded Black History Month’s 100th Anniversary and the United States' 250th Anniversary, The Inherited Roots Project ("InRP") is proud to say that it also marks the 50th Anniversary of the impetus for InRP's founding—the 1976 publication of Alex Haley's historic Pulitzer Prize-winning, “Roots”. In addition, 2027 is the 260th anniversary of enslaved trafficking ship, Lord Ligonier—with a kidnapped Kunta Kinteh—landing on September 29, 1767 in Annapolis, MD. Notwithstanding, 2027 is also the 50th Anniversary of: the Emmy-winning Roots miniseries, the release of Haley’s Grammy-nominated album, Alex Haley Tells The Story of His Search for Roots (Warner Records), and Haley receiving the Pulitzer for Roots—as a result, InRP has launched the “Roots@50” Fundraising Campaign to support its 2026-2027 programming that recognizes those significant milestones, as well as the 40th Anniversary of Haley's passing in 1992, as well as the 10th Anniversary of Ebou Manga's passing in 2017...
